The Gombe State Police Command has recovered 119 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 live ammunition concealed in a sack along Kalshingi Road in Kwadon, Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the recovery followed credible information received by the Divisional Police Officer of Kwadon Division at about 10:30am on May 19, 2026.

Abdullahi said the information indicated that a suspicious white sack had been hidden under a tree opposite a graveyard along the road.

“Upon receipt of the information, the Divisional Police Officer promptly led a team of detectives to the scene where the sack was recovered and searched,” he stated.

The police spokesperson disclosed that items recovered from the sack included 119 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 live ammunition, two empty ammunition packets, two bottles containing moringa seeds, and one green bag.

He added that operatives immediately combed the surrounding bushes and adjoining areas after the discovery, but no suspect had been arrested.

“The Command has intensified monitoring and surveillance in the area while investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend those connected with the concealed ammunition,” Abdullahi said.

The Commissioner of Police, Bello Yahaya, commended members of the public for providing timely information and urged residents to remain vigilant.

He appealed to citizens to continue providing security agencies with useful intelligence to enhance efforts to protect lives and property across the state.

On May 10, the Kano State Police Command arrested a suspected arms dealer and recovered three fabricated AK-47 rifles alongside other weapons during a sting operation in Dala Local Government Area of the state.

The command revealed that the operation was carried out by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad around Dandinshe Quarters.
