The Federal Government has started disbursing outstanding 2025 allowances to beneficiaries of the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) Scholarship Programme studying in partner countries. The Ministry of Education announced that the Central Bank of Nigeria has remitted approved funds to Nigerian embassies and missions for immediate disbursement.

The released funds represent 50 percent of the approved outstanding obligations for 2025, with efforts ongoing to pay the remaining balance. The BEA scholarship programme has been discontinued, but beneficiaries had complained about delays in allowances.

Key Points:

The payment eases financial hardship for Nigerian students abroad who have been waiting months for their allowances.
Clearing 50 percent of arrears shows that the government is addressing past obligations despite the programme’s discontinuation.
Students can now focus on their studies instead of worrying about accommodation and feeding costs.
The move may restore some confidence in Nigeria’s commitment to its scholars after prolonged delays.
Prompt payment of the remaining 50 percent will determine if this is a one‑off gesture or a sustained policy
