Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has lost the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 election in Bauchi State.

At the conclusion of the party’s primary election held on Saturday, former governor Mohammed Abubakar emerged victorious after defeating Tuggar and five other contenders to secure the APC ticket.

Chairman of the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primary Committee in the state, John Abang, announced that Abubakar polled 57,517 votes to emerge as the party’s candidate.

Tuggar came second with 26,001 votes, while Nura Manu Soro garnered 13,638 votes. Bala Wunti secured 13,648 votes, with Kabir Ma’aji trailing with 8,157 votes.

Abang stated that the figures were collated from across the state following the completion of the exercise and formally declared Abubakar as the APC flagbearer for the 2027 governorship race.

Tuggar had stepped down from his ministerial position on March 30 after President Bola Tinubu directed all political appointees interested in contesting elective offices in 2027 to resign from their appointments.
