Kakamega family mourns relative allegedly killed by shamba boy

Gideon Okinyo, one of his family members, recounted their last moments together before he was found dead.

“We were together that Saturday at around 6.30 pm, and he said he was headed home to rest,” said Okinyo.

Sadly, they later discovered that he had been killed and his body buried in a shallow grave within his homestead, leaving his family shaken and heartbroken.

His cousin, Roseline Apondi, narrated that she arrived at the homestead and found a crowd of people alongside police officers as they dug out the body from the shallow grave.

“We are in deep fear. I received a call that one of our relatives had noticed a suspicious area within the home that looked freshly dug. There were also blood stains around it, which raised an alarm,” she said.

Ombogo’s family shared that he had been living in Naivasha and had just returned home to inspect his development projects before meeting his tragic death.

Did Kakamega shamba boy murder his boss?

Following preliminary investigations into the matter, the deceased man’s shamba boy was placed at the centre of the murder.

The shamba boy allegedly killed his boss and fled with some of the chickens. Ombogo’s brother-in-law, David Anzetse, described the chilling condition in which the body was found.

“He had injuries on the head, and whoever killed him must have used a sharp object. His body also appeared to have been burned with a substance, possibly acid or petrol,” noted David.

Mumias West OCPD Richard Omanga also stated that the suspect was spotted fleeing with chickens stuffed in a sack.

“When members of the public caught up with him, he dropped the sack and ran away. They then alerted neighbours, who conducted a search and discovered the fresh grave,” said the OCPD.

Ombogo’s body was moved to St Mary’s Hospital mortuary in Mumias pending post-mortem examination, as police continue their manhunt for the shamba boy.
