A 35-year old lady, Busurat Adekoya, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing 781 kilograms of cow skin, popularly known as kpomo, valued at N1.25m at street market, property of one Tony Biachi.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 15th December, 2024, at about 2:00 p.m., at Shuabu Street, Abaranje, Ikotun, Lagos.

The suspect was said to have obtained the meat under false pretence and escaped to an unknown place.

The matter was reported to the Police at Ikotun Division. She was later arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over her alleged conduct.

Having been found culpable after thorough interrogation, she was charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for allegedly obtaining under false pretence and stealing.

According to Police, she is facing the two counts of obtaining by false pretence and theft, which were contrary to Sections 314(1)(a)(b), 280, and 287 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.

The second count alleged the defendant to have intent to defraud, obtained 781kg of cow skin and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 314(1)(a)(b) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution led by Simon Njue asked the Court to give a date for hearing since the defendant pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Miss  F.R Ogunkoyode, granted her bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
