The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted hundreds of MDMA (Ecstasy) pills concealed inside bicycle luggage carriers in a bid to smuggle the drugs to Europe.
The agency disclosed the seizure on Sunday in a narcotics trend update released by Femi Babafemi., its director of media and advocacy.
According to the NDLEA, operatives discovered the illicit substances during a recent anti-narcotics operation, where traffickers attempted to disguise the drugs within ordinary bicycle accessories.
Babafemi warned Nigerians to be cautious of accepting parcels or luggage from unknown persons, stressing that traffickers are increasingly using creative concealment methods to evade detection.
He said drug syndicates now hide narcotics in everyday items such as household goods and travel accessories, making detection more difficult.
“The ingenuity of drug trafficking networks to use just anything for drug concealment is crazy,” he said, adding that officers uncovered hundreds of MDMA pills carefully packed inside bicycle carriers.
He further cautioned that anyone found in possession of such items could be held liable, even if unaware of their contents.
“Always remember, possession makes you liable,” he warned.
The NDLEA noted that drug traffickers have previously hidden narcotics in items such as lipsticks, prayer beads, yoghurt containers, MP3 players, children’s toys, and vehicle parts in ongoing efforts to evade security checks.
