5 Security Guards Arraigned Over ₦25.3m Sweet Emirate Superstore Loot

Five security guards hired to protect Sweet Emirate Superstore at Isheri Olofin, Idimu, Lagos, have been arrested and charged for allegedly looting the supermarket and carting away items worth N25.3m while on duty. 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 9th April, 2026, at about 2:00 am.

The men, Abiodun Ademola 27, Ahmed Afolabi 26, Olademiji Popoola 26, Ayomide Reheem 44 and Oyebade Emmanuel 24, meant to be the store’s first line of defence allegedly became its biggest threat.

They were apprehended by the Police intelligence team from Idimu Division led by the DPO, CSP Oni Waheed following reports by the management.

According to the Police, the men were employed as security guards but in the early hours of the morning, they conspired and carted away the items and were later caught on CCTV.

After thorough interrogation, the Police found them culpable and charged them before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.

Part of the charges read:

“That you, ABIODUN ADEMOLA, AHMED AFOLABI, OLADEMEJI POPOOLA, AYOMIDE REHEEM and OYEBADE EMMANUEL and others large on the 9th of April, 2026 at about 1400hrs at Sweet Emirate Superstore, Isheri Olofin, did conspire and stole items worth N25.3m, property of Sweet Emirate Supermarket and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”

“That you, ABIODUN ADEMOLA ‘M’. AHMED AFOLABI, OLADEMEJI POPOOLA, AYOMIDE REHEEM and OYEBADE EMMANUEL and others at large on the same date, time and place in Lagos Magisterial District, did steal valuable goods from Sweet Emirate Superstore valued twenty five million three hundred and nineteen thousand, nine hundred and forty one Naira (N25,319,941.00) property of Sweet Emirate Supermarket, Isheri Olofin, Lagos State and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 281 of criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

However, they pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Miss F R. Ogunkoyede, granted them bail in the sum of N2m with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned till 23rd June, 2026, for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
