An accountant accused of masterminding a ₦150 million burglary in Lagos has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force through the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, after allegedly fleeing to Canada.

The suspect was reportedly intercepted while attempting to re-enter Nigeria from Canada, following months of surveillance and international tracking efforts coordinated with the International Criminal Police Organization.

Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, AIG Olohundare Jimoh, confirmed the arrest while briefing journalists in Lagos on Tuesday. He said the suspect had been on the run since July 2025 after a burglary was reported in Maryland, Lagos, involving valuables estimated at ₦150 million.

According to him, initial investigations led to the arrest and prosecution of several accomplices, while the principal suspect—who had served as the late property owner’s accountant for 17 years—escaped abroad before he could be apprehended.

Jimoh stated that Interpol Nigeria was contacted on July 16, 2025, to assist in tracking the suspect internationally. Months of intelligence gathering eventually led to his arrest upon his return to the country.

He added that the suspect has already given statements to investigators, and efforts are ongoing to uncover the full network behind the crime, including anyone who aided, benefited from, or received stolen property.

“The arrest shows that fleeing abroad does not shield offenders from justice,” Jimoh said, adding that police remain committed to recovering all stolen items and ensuring all involved parties are prosecuted.

He also reaffirmed the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to strengthening crime prevention and international cooperation in tackling organised crime.
