Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen has reassured football fans that he is doing well after recently receiving a shock from his Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD), describing the incident as different from the cardiac arrest he suffered during Euro 2020 in 2021.
In a heartfelt message shared with supporters, Eriksen said he is now at home with his family and recovering well.
“I want to let everyone know that I am doing well and that I am home with my family. As you can probably imagine, receiving a shock from my ICD has had a major impact on both me and my family, but I want to reassure everyone that this was a different situation from what happened in 2021,” he said.
The former Manchester United midfielder expressed gratitude to the players, medical personnel, and doctors who have supported him over the years, noting that the device functioned exactly as intended.
“I am also incredibly grateful to the doctors who have cared for me and my heart over the years. Thanks to their expertise, my ICD did exactly what it was designed to do: protect me when I needed it,” Eriksen added.
The 34-year-old said his immediate priority is recovery and spending quality time with his loved ones.
“For now, my focus is on recovering, spending time with my family, going on vacation, and playing football with my children,” he stated.
Eriksen’s message has been met with an outpouring of support from football fans around the world, many of whom continue to admire his resilience and remarkable return to professional football following his life-threatening cardiac incident in 2021.
