A group of senatorial aspirants under the All Progressives Congress from Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State has reaffirmed its commitment to the existing zoning arrangement within Kwara North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 elections.

The aspirants maintained that the zoning and rotation principle remains central to sustaining political harmony, equity, and stability in the district, insisting that it must be strictly respected by all stakeholders.

They particularly urged the incumbent senator representing Kwara North, Sadiq Umar, to honour the established succession formula, noting that it has long guided political balance in the area.

Their position was contained in a communiqué issued after a strategic consultative meeting on Wednesday with the Etsu Patigi and Vice Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Council of Chiefs, Umar Bologi II.

The communiqué, jointly signed by Hon. Mohammed Musa, Alhaji Adamu Manko, Mahmud Mohammed, Dr. Babajiya Kolo, and Comrade Mohammed Abubakar, stressed that unity among aspirants from Patigi remains non-negotiable.

“We unequivocally state that the existing zoning arrangement within Kwara North must be respected to ensure continued peace, equity, and political stability in our district. Zoning remains the bedrock of our collective progress,” the statement read.

The aspirants also pledged solidarity among themselves, declaring that whoever emerges as the APC senatorial candidate from Patigi will enjoy the full backing of all other contenders.

“We remain brothers first; no political contest will be allowed to undermine the long-standing bonds we share,” they added.

They further appealed to Senator Sadiq Umar to respect the zoning arrangement, noting that it played a role in his own emergence.

The aspirants also recalled Patigi’s support during the 2023 general elections despite having its own aspirants in the race.

“We respectfully urge Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar to respect the established zoning rotation. It is important to note that this arrangement facilitated his emergence as Senator representing Kwara North,” they stated.

The group also called on the APC leadership in Kwara State, including Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to intervene in order to preserve peace and ensure continued adherence to zoning agreements.

They also reaffirmed their support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, while pledging commitment to the long-term aspiration of producing a governorship candidate from Kwara North Senatorial District.

The development is expected to further intensify political discussions around zoning and power rotation in Kwara North as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
