Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Zenith Labour Party in Nasarawa State has adopted the consensus mode for its governorship primary election scheduled for later in May.

The Nasarawa State Chairman of the ZLP, Cletus Ogah, disclosed this while speaking with journalists at the party’s secretariat on Wednesday in Lafia.

Ogah said the party arrived at the decision after a series of meetings and consultations, noting that the consensus option would help prevent uncertainties and internal divisions that could arise from direct primaries.

According to him, a former Acting Accountant General of the Federation, Abubakar Giza, is currently being considered as the party’s consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

“The ZLP in Nasarawa State is working towards endorsing and adopting Mr. Abubakar Giza as our governorship candidate because of his leadership skills and support for the less privileged individuals in the state.

“His candidature is going to change so many things in Nasarawa State because many people already know that he has vision for a better developed and advanced state, and we are confident that he has the ability to take the state to greater heights if he is elected into office as Governor in 2027,” Ogah said.

Speaking earlier, the governorship aspirant, Abubakar Giza, said his decision to join the race was not solely based on calls from supporters but also on his past contributions and experience in the state.

He said, “My decision is also driven by a deep concern for the realities facing our people. The youth who seeks opportunities but find doors closed, the civil servants who desires dignity in service, as well as the retiree and the pensioners who deserves full payment of their gratuity and pension.

“Our rural communities yearning for modern roads. And above all, the need for a peaceful and secure environment.”

Giza added that his administration, if elected, would focus on economic revitalisation and job creation.

“My vision is simple but powerful; A productive, secure, and people-centered Nasarawa State. If given the mandate, my administration will focus on Economic Revitalisation and Job Creation,” he said.

He further stated that his government would prioritise agriculture, small and medium-scale enterprises and investment drive aimed at creating employment opportunities for residents of the state.

“We will unlock agricultural value chains, promote small and medium enterprises, and attract investments that will create real jobs for the people of the state,” Giza added.

Political stakeholders across the state have continued to intensify moves to position their parties and aspirants ahead of the contest expected to shape the state’s political landscape after the end of Governor Abdullahi Sule’s tenure.
