According to a report by The Nggossips on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has raised a red flag regarding the obsession with Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on ARISE NEWS, Momodu warned that over-relying on the former Labour Party candidate could blindside the electorate to more pressing national concerns.
Momodu expressed concern that the country has become “hypnotized” by debates over regional zoning and individual personalities.
According to him, these discussions are deliberate distractions used to shift focus away from the government’s failure to provide stable electricity, security, and effective governance.
He argued that the conversation should center on competence and practical solutions rather than where a candidate originates.
The media mogul accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating the “North-versus-South” narrative. He claimed President Bola Tinubu’s administration is using zoning as a strategic tool to fracture the opposition and maintain its grip on power.
Momodu reminded Nigerians that while zoning is a political sentiment, it lacks constitutional backing to prevent any qualified citizen from contesting.
Addressing the rumoured alliance between Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, Momodu downplayed the hype. He noted that while such a partnership is popular on social media, elections are won through grassroots structures, numerical strength, and superior strategy—not just online momentum.
Momodu urged Nigerians to demand accountability on current hardships instead of getting caught in the 2027 political cycle prematurely.
He stressed that without addressing the systemic issues plaguing the nation today, the identity of the next president might not bring the desired change.
