Deputy National Financial Secretary of the ADC, Oladimeji Fabiyi, has dismissed claims suggesting that the party is losing momentum, insisting that the coalition being formed within the African Democratic Congress remains strong and focused ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Fabiyi made the remarks during an interview aired on Trust TV News and shared on YouTube on Thursday, May 14, 2026. During the interview, the ADC chieftain responded to comments by political observers who questioned the current strength and direction of the party following recent political developments and coalition talks involving opposition figures.
The interviewer asked, “Some say if you have to describe or characterize the ADC as a car, some have said over the last couple of days or just a little over a week, your tank is running empty at the moment.”
Reacting to the statement, Fabiyi rejected the description and accused some commentators of making conclusions without understanding the internal activities of the party. “I don’t know where that is coming from. You know, I noticed that most of these commentators are not even part of the internal workings of the party and they make reckless comments. That is reckless,” he said.
Fabiyi stated that individuals making such remarks should first understand the structure and ongoing discussions within the ADC before offering public opinions on the party’s condition. “Because you are not part of, they should have taken time to know what is even happening, what we’re putting together, what we’re cooking,” he added.
The ADC official further referenced the involvement of prominent political figures within the coalition discussions, arguing that their participation demonstrated that the movement should not be dismissed. “A party you have someone like David Mark, Atiku, Tambuwal, and all the rest, you think they’re joking? Those people must be joking. People with that kind of narration or narrative about ADC should be joking,” he continued.
Fabiyi also criticised commentators for speaking from outside the party structure without firsthand knowledge of internal plans and negotiations. He said, “You should be an insider for us. Not just make comments on the, because of you have people talking about, that’s what they do. And you should have made an effort to be part to see what we’re doing internally before you make such comments. We are serious.”
Speaking further, Fabiyi said members of the opposition coalition believe the stakes ahead of the next election cycle are significant and require sustained political engagement: “We know what is at stake, like I said. And then we are not relenting because another four years of APC will turn Nigeria to a wreckage site. And we cannot afford that. We cannot.”
