Adams Oshiomhole has dismissed growing opposition movements ahead of future elections, insisting that the ruling party has little reason to fear emerging alliances. Speaking during a television interview on Channels TV, the former Edo State governor and senator argued that opposition figures remain divided and focused more on attacking one another than presenting alternatives to government policies.………
During the discussion, Oshiomhole defended the strength of his party while questioning the ability of opposition actors to unite around a common agenda. He also praised former President Goodluck Jonathan, describing him as a gentleman who once demonstrated restraint by placing national peace above personal ambition.
As the conversation shifted toward political alignments and rivalries, Oshiomhole pointed to exchanges among leading opposition figures as evidence of internal disunity. He referenced criticisms and counter-criticisms involving key politicians and suggested that these battles reflect a fractured political landscape.
Addressing comments allegedly made by former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi about Peter Obi, Oshiomhole challenged the characterization of Obi as a regional figure. He stated, “Amaechi say Obi is a regional player, I think he’s a regional player, he’s the only national player.” He then added that critics had failed to clearly explain what alternative political direction they intended to offer Nigerians.
Oshiomhole concluded by expressing confidence that opposition coalitions would struggle to convince voters. According to him, rather than merely forming alliances, opposition leaders should explain whether they intend to reverse key policies such as subsidy reforms, taxation measures, student loan initiatives, and other major decisions implemented by the current administration.
