APC Governors Accused of Funding Tinubu’s Re-Election with FAAC Allocations

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress of allegedly using Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) funds to support the 2027 re-election campaign of President Bola Tinubu.

The opposition party claimed that over N800 billion meant for development and public welfare may have been channelled into political activities ahead of the next general election.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the ADC described the alleged move as “shameless, cruel and criminal,” saying it was unacceptable at a time millions of Nigerians were battling hardship, rising food prices and worsening insecurity across the country.

The statement was signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.

According to the party, the allegations have strengthened public concerns that while Nigerians are repeatedly urged to endure the effects of economic reforms introduced by the current administration, huge public funds are allegedly being moved around for political calculations ahead of 2027.

The ADC said state governments under the APC have continued to receive increased allocations since the removal of fuel subsidy and exchange rate reforms, but claimed there has been little improvement in the living conditions of ordinary Nigerians.

The party argued that despite the rise in revenues to states, many public hospitals remain poorly equipped, roads are still in bad condition and schools continue to struggle with underfunding.

“It is morally indefensible that state governments receiving record-breaking allocations are unable to improve the lives of the people, yet could divert money to fund the President’s re-election ambitions,” the statement read.

The opposition party further stated that if the allegations are eventually confirmed, it would amount to a serious abuse of public trust and misuse of funds belonging to Nigerians.

According to the ADC, FAAC allocations are constitutionally meant for infrastructure, salaries, healthcare delivery, education, security and social welfare, not political campaigns.

“To divert public allocations into political accounts while citizens cannot afford food is wickedness on an industrial scale,” the party stated.

The ADC also questioned why several APC governors appeared to be concentrating more on political alignments and electoral strategies instead of governance despite improved revenues coming into their states.
