Rumour has it that Adamu and his friend Ali Tukur Gantsa were abducted on Monday while on their way to Abuja for a political engagement.………

Adamu served as the National Assembly representative for the Birniwa/Guri/Kirikasamma Federal Constituency from 2007 to 2011.

It is believed that the incident took place near the Jere axis of the Abuja-Kaduna highway, which has been the scene of numerous kidnappings and violent attacks in the past few years.

The news was confirmed on Monday by Sabo Nakudu, a senior ADC member and former senator from Jigawa State, in a Facebook post.

Those in the know said that the kidnappers wanted N200 million to free the two men when they first asked for payment. Reportedly, however, the figure was lowered to N50 million after discussions with associates and relatives.

Adamu was claimed to have died in captivity despite the ransom, while Gantsa was liberated after the kidnappers received the ransom.

The politician’s loved ones revealed that he suffered from hypertension and asthma, among other medical issues, and that his kidnappers allegedly denied him access to his medicine. According to family members and close associates, he suffered a serious decline in health as a result of the stress and lack of medical treatment he endured while in captivity.

The kidnappers received the ransom from Adamu’s son and his driver, according to an insider who was privy to the discussions. According to reports, once the ransom was paid, the kidnappers let go of Gantsa, who was then shown Adamu’s corpse before letting the body be removed.

The corpse has been returned to the family so that they can bury it in accordance with Islamic traditions.
