The Bauchi State Police Command has announced the arrest of two individuals in connection with an alleged fake recruitment scam targeting unsuspecting job seekers through forged civil service documents.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed in a statement on Thursday that the matter came to light on April 28, 2026, following a formal complaint lodged with the police by the Office of the Head of Civil Service through the Civil Service Commission’s Director of Recruitment and Training, who reported the circulation of fraudulent recruitment materials.

Following the complaint, detectives were deployed to investigate, leading to the arrest of two suspects Mohammed Bappa, a 30-year-old civil servant attached to the Shira Local Government Secretariat, and Aminu Nuru, a 28-year-old café operator based in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area.

A search conducted at Bappa’s residence in the Kakudi area of Azare town yielded 20 Civil Service Commission bio-data forms and five printed copies of what are believed to be forged temporary appointment letters documents investigators say were being prepared to deceive job seekers into believing they had secured government employment.

Both suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue, with the police working to determine the full scope of the operation and identify any additional accomplices.

The Command confirmed that the suspects will be formally charged in court once investigations are concluded.

Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu reaffirmed the Command’s determination to clamp down on fraud and forgery in the state, while urging members of the public to exercise caution and always verify recruitment information through official government channels to avoid falling prey to scammers.
