OGOJA — A woman, identified as Blessing, said to be the wife of a herbalist known as Dr. Respect Ogar, allegedly bathed her husband’s second wife, Mary, with hot water, at the weekend.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning in Wodah village, Yala Local Government Area of Northern Cross River State.

According to a village source, the first wife became angry after her husband allegedly paid the bride price and conducted the traditional marriage rites for the second wife, while she, despite being married to him for many years and bearing five male children, had not had her bride price paid or undergone formal traditional rites.

“The second wife, Mary, is always mocking Blessing because the man has completed her bride price and traditional marriage rites, even though she has no child for him, while the first wife, who has been with him for years and has five sons, has not been formally married,” a source, Ochuole, said.

The source added that Mary’s persistent taunting allegedly angered Blessing, who on Saturday morning poured a pot of boiling water on her co-wife, leaving her with severe burns on her chest and stomach.

“She often tells her senior  mate that the husband bought her a plot of land and rented an apartment for her in town, while the first wife has nothing. All these made Blessing angry, and when Mary again began to taunt her on Saturday morning, she poured hot water on her,” the source added.

Mary is currently receiving treatment at the Ogoja General Hospital and is expected to be transferred to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar.

“She was first taken to Life First Clinic in Abachor, and arrangements have been made to move her to the Teaching Hospital in Calabar on Monday,” the source said.

It was further gathered that Blessing was arrested and taken to the Okuku Police Station. However, following threats by Mary’s family to retaliate, she was later transferred to the Divisional Police Station in Okpoma for her safety and further investigation.

Motorcyclist critically injured after alleged Customs chase in Lagos

By Efe Onodjae

A commercial motorcycle rider

sustained severe injuries, on Sunday, following an alleged collision involving officers of the Nigeria Customs Service, Seme Border Command, along Joseph Dosu Way in Badagry, Lagos State.

The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. near Beach Town Mall while the rider was conveying six bags of rice from Badagry Market to Badagry Roundabout.

Eyewitnesses said Customs officers on patrol from the roundabout towards Badagry town attempted to intercept the rider after noticing the bags of rice.

Residents alleged that the patrol vehicle drove directly towards the motorcycle, resulting in a collision that threw the rider into a roadside gutter, leaving him critically injured.

They further claimed that the officers seized the bags of rice and left the scene without attending to the injured man.

Speaking with Nggossips at the scene, a witness identified simply as Kikekon said:

“The motorcycle rider was carrying six bags of rice from Badagry Market to Badagry Roundabout, while the Customs officers were moving from the roundabout towards Badagry town. When they sighted him with the rice, they allegedly drove directly at him, causing a collision that threw him into the gutter where he sustained serious injuries.

“Instead of attending to him, the Customs officers took the rice and left him battling for his life.

“This is one of many operations carried out by Customs officers in the Badagry border community, where they continue to intercept rice within the town after it has already crossed the border.”

When contacted, the Seme Border Command Customs Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Customs (SC) Ayagbalo Tunde, did not issue an official statement but responded via text, saying, “I’m in church, sir.”

Boko Haram kingpin, Kabiru Sokoto, appeals terrorism conviction

Convicted Boko Haram

bomber, Kabiru Sokoto, has appealed his terrorism conviction by the Federal High Court, in Abuja.

Sokoto, through his counsel, Don Akaegbu & Company, filed an application dated May 13, 2026, before the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal.

Recall that on December 20, 2013, Sokoto was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment over the Christmas Day bombing of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Madalla, Niger State, which killed at least 37 people and injured 57 others.

It was reported that Sokoto had allegedly been planning to kidnap the children of Kashim Shettima, then governor of Borno State, when he was arrested in January 2012.

He was initially arrested at the Borno State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, before escaping from police custody.

He was later re-arrested a month later in Taraba State.

In the motion on notice, Sokoto’s counsel prayed the Court of Appeal for leave to file his notice of appeal out of time and for the notice already filed to be deemed properly filed and served.

The convict told the court that the delay in filing the appeal was caused by his prolonged incarceration, repeated transfers across different custodial facilities, and the deaths of two lawyers previously handling the case.

“The applicant was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment on 20th December, 2013. The applicant has been continuously incarcerated since then.

“The applicant was moved across several custodial centres in different states, making access to counsel extremely difficult,” the court filing read.
