Bolaji Abdullahi, spokesperson of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, has revealed how internal concessions made to accommodate new entrants may have led to the exit of some founding members.………
Abdullahi made the disclosure during an interview on SYMFONI TV, where he reflected on the coalition’s formation process and the delicate balancing act required to manage competing political interests within the alliance.
Citing a specific example, Abdullahi said the coalition lost the support of Osita Chidoka, a former Minister of Aviation, following the entry of Peter Obi into the fold. According to him, Chidoka had been actively involved in building the coalition and had hoped to assume a key leadership role.
“Before his excellency Peter Obi joined the coalition, you had other people like Osita Chidoka, the former minister of Aviation, in the coalition working very hard for the coalition building. He was hoping to be the National Organising Secretary, but when Peter Obi came, in order to give him a sense of belonging, that’s how we lost Osita Chidoka,” Abdullahi said.
The statement highlights the internal trade-offs that have shaped the ADC coalition, particularly as it seeks to integrate influential political figures with established grassroots contributors. Abdullahi’s remarks suggest that accommodating high-profile entrants sometimes comes at the cost of alienating earlier members.
