…disastrous performance of APC has made winning easier – PDP Secretary
The Cross River State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has screened 45 aspirants for the National Assembly and State Assembly ahead of its May 21 primaries.
The screening, which was conducted by a five-man panel led by Hon. Fred Osim, included some of the screened aspirants, the member representing Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency, Mr. Alex Egbona, who defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) last week.
A breakdown of the aspirants shows that 33 are vying for seats in the State Assembly, three for senatorial districts, while nine are seeking tickets for the House of Representatives.
Speaking on the party’s readiness for the 2027 elections, the State Secretary of the PDP, Joe Bisong, said the “disastrous” performance of the APC had made the task easier for the opposition party.
“We are very happy that we are competing with the APC because it has not done much for our country and Cross River.
“The expectations of Nigeria have dampened, and the PDP is the only political party that can guarantee our democracy, and I can assure you that we have been tested and proven to be true and the best.
“We have also seen the activity of the APC from 2015 till now. The cry among Nigerians is massive, and they (Nigerians) will be left to decide their case during the elections,” he stated.
On whether the PDP had the funds to prosecute the 2027 elections, Bisong said: “We have the funds to execute the elections.
“We will execute the elections with available funds, and we have a covenant with Nigerians.
“Nigerians want good government, not to chop down and dampen their tomorrow. Nigerians must not continue to give their tomorrow for today. They must give their today for tomorrow.
“So we are very confident that Nigerians will vote us. Of course, they know that we didn’t stack money anywhere,” he said.
