Obika was elected into the National Assembly in 2023 under the platform of the Labour Party. Earlier this year, he dumped the party and joined the All Progressives Congress.………
However, last week, the federal lawmaker announced another defection, this time moving from the APC to the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
Responding to criticisms that followed his repeated defections, the lawmaker maintained that his decision to leave the Labour Party was influenced by the prolonged leadership crisis within the party.
He explained that the internal disputes created uncertainty and instability, making it difficult for him to remain.
Obika also spoke on why he did not follow the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, to the African Democratic Congress.
According to him, he was not convinced that Obi would eventually secure the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general election.
The lawmaker further stated that his eventual decision to leave the APC for the Nigeria Democratic Congress was influenced by Obi’s entry into the party.
He alleged that political rivals were behind the criticisms and attacks directed at him over his movement across political platforms.
Speaking on the controversy surrounding his defections, Obika insisted that attention should be placed on the quality of representation he has offered to the people of AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency.
He stressed that his contributions and efforts in improving the welfare of his constituents were more important than discussions about political affiliation.
