Vandefan Gemade, son of former Benue State governor and senator, Barnabas Gemade, has lost the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Vandeikya/Konshisha Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
The outcome was announced on Sunday during the declaration of results by the APC National Assembly Primary Election Committee in Makurdi.
Despite backing from influential figures within the party, including his father who currently serves as Chairman of the APC Elders Forum in Benue State and is a strong ally of Governor Hyacinth Alia, Vandefan failed to secure significant support at the polls.
Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Sabiu Mahuta, declared that Livinus Tsar, a close associate of Governor Alia, won the primary election with 28,549 votes.
According to the committee, Vandefan Gemade received 225 votes, while the incumbent House of Representatives member for the constituency, Sesoo Gboko, polled 693 votes. Another contender, Cephas Dyako, who represents Konshisha State Constituency, secured 62 votes.
A total of 14 aspirants participated in the APC primary election for the federal constituency seat.
