A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has convicted and sentenced former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, to 75 years behind bars in connection with a ₦33.8 billion fraud scandal.

Presiding Justice James Omotosho handed down separate sentences on each count, ordering that all terms run consecutively — bringing the total to 75 years. Notably, the sentence will only begin counting from the day Mamman is physically taken into custody.

With the convict currently at large, Justice Omotosho directed all Nigerian security agencies and international police organisation, Interpol, to track down and arrest Mamman wherever he may be found across the globe.

On the matter of restitution, the court ruled that all funds and assets already recovered from the former minister be forfeited to the federal government. Mamman was further ordered to refund the outstanding balance of the ₦22 billion that had been set aside for the development of the Mambilla and Zungeru hydroelectric power projects — funds meant to address Nigeria’s chronic electricity deficit.
