A financial analyst who was so sick of being micromanaged at work that he stabbed his coworker and his roommate over 40 times each, is set to be sentenced for their double murder.

Ramy Fahim, 30, initially pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to the killings of 23-year-old Griffin Cuomo and Johnathan Bahm, also 23, at their California apartment in April 2022.

But last week the Orange County District Attorney’s office announced that a jury had found that Fahim was sane at the time of the incident, and that he had changed his plea to guilty.

“The violence carried out in that apartment was not an act of insanity. He carefully calculated how to gain access to his victims’ apartment building, waiting for hours on the roof until he had the perfect opportunity to ambush his victim and execute a witness in the hopes of getting away with all of it,” said Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer.

According to the DA’s office, late on April 18, 2022, Fahim was found by a security guard on the roof of Cuomo and Bahm’s apartment complex in Anaheim, California, and he was later spotted on their floor in the early hours of April 19.

Fahim first stabbed Cuomo repeatedly with what prosecutors described as a “hunting dagger” before pushing through the bathroom door and attacking Bahm, who was on the phone with police calling for help, according to theThe Orange County Register.

Both men were stabbed over 40 times each, the outlet reported. In addition, prosecutors said police found tarp and a shovel in Fahim’s car and evidence they claim showed he intended to blame the killings on a previous schizophrenia diagnosis.

Fahim was a research associate at Pence Wealth Management, a wealth management company based in Orange County, where Cuomo also worked as a marketing and media assistant.

Prosecutors said that Fahim carried out the attack after complaining about being micromanaged by Cuomo and becoming frustrated with the level of assignments he was getting from him, according to The Register.

In addition, other employees had also raised concerns over Fahim’s erratic behavior at work and his poor hygiene in the office in the lead up to the killings.

Following his arrest on April 19, 2022 and his arraignment, Fahim entered a not guilty by reason of insanity plea, prompting the trial that later found him sane.

Earlier this month Fahim pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder, as well as admitting to special circumstance allegations of lying in wait, multiple murders, and murder to avoid arrest as it related to the killing of Bahm.

He is expected to be sentenced to two consecutive sentences of life in prison without the possibility of parole, according to the DA’s office, at a hearing that is scheduled for Wednesday May 13.
