He reportedly died on Monday night at Evercare Hospital in Lekki, Lagos, reports say he had been battling liver cancer before his passing, his death was confirmed by colleagues and representatives of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, the news spread quickly across the entertainment sector and shocked many fans.
Sources stated that his body was later moved to Ebony Vaults in Ikoyi, friends and colleagues described the news as shocking, many said they had spoken with him recently and did not expect this outcome, social media was filled with grief and messages from fans and industry workers.
Born on April 10, 1986, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, he came from Arochukwu in Abia State, he rose to fame in Nollywood through his strong screen presence and charisma, he worked across film and television for more than a decade.
In 2020, he was named by the United Nations as one of the Most Influential People of African Descent under 40, he became one of Nollywood’s most recognisable actors.
Actress Funke Akindele expressed sadness over his passing and said she wished she had seen him again, actor Bolanle Ninalowo prayed for strength for his family.
Singer Peter Okoye also paid tribute with a short message of rest in peace, veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo described the loss as painful and hard to accept, filmmaker Omoni Oboli called him a close friend and expressed deep sorrow.
