Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers State, has dismissed rumours linking him to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), insisting that he remains a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Fubara spoke on Wednesday during a public engagement in Port Harcourt amid growing speculation about a possible defection from the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.

The rumours gained momentum following concerns over the governor’s political future within the APC, especially after he was absent from the party’s screening exercise for incumbent governors held last Saturday.

Francis Nwifuru, governor of Ebonyi State, and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, governor of Kwara State, were also absent from the exercise.

The development triggered speculation on social media that Fubara might be considering a move to the NDC.

However, Nentawe Yilwatda, national chairman of the APC, explained that the affected governors were absent because of official engagements in their respective states.

Reacting to the reports, Fubara urged Nigerians not to rely on social media narratives or personal interpretations to misrepresent his political position.

“I know that there’s been a lot of drama in the media, one story and another,” the governor said.

“I’m a member of the Progressive Congress and nothing has changed. People should stop using whatever situation that they pick up from social media or their own interpretation of any situation to present me wrongly.

“I have not gone anywhere, I’m still a member of the Progressive Congress and I remain a member.

“Whatever happens, what is most important is supporting the overall interests of the party.”
