Globacom is celebrating the enduring legacy of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, at the 2026 edition of the Ojude Oba Festival, the 21st consecutive year the company is supporting the cultural event.

This year’s festival, themed “Ojude Oba 2026: Celebrating the Legacy of Oba Sikiru Adetona,” will hold at the Festival Arena opposite the royal palace in Ijebu Ode. The event honors the remarkable life and achievements of the revered monarch, who passed on Sunday, July 13, 2025, after a historic 65-year reign.

Globacom, in a statement released in Lagos, said the late monarch’s lifelong commitment to preserving Ijebu culture, tradition, and values remains one of the key reasons behind the company’s continued support for the festival.

According to the company, this year’s edition goes beyond sponsorship and serves as a tribute to a monarch whose leadership elevated the status of the Ojude Oba Festival over several decades.

“For us, this year’s edition is not just about sponsoring the festival as we have done over the past twenty years. It is about celebrating the exemplary legacies of the revered father, Oba Adetona, who spared no efforts to place the festival on an enviable pedestal”, the statement said.

Under Oba Adetona’s reign, the festival grew into a major cultural gathering that united Ijebu sons and daughters across religious and social lines. His vision and dedication helped transform Ojude Oba into an event with national and international appeal.

Globacom noted that since it began sponsoring the festival 21 years ago, the event has continued to attract dignitaries, tourists, and culture enthusiasts from across Nigeria and beyond.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and supporting platforms that showcase the country’s traditions to a global audience.

Oba Adetona was enthroned on April 2, 1960, and reigned for 65 years. During his reign, the Ojude Oba Festival witnessed tremendous growth and gained wider recognition both within and outside Nigeria.
