The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, on Friday visited the Edo State Government House in Benin City, where he met with Governor Monday Okpebholo to discuss ways of strengthening security collaboration and improving public safety across the state.

During the meeting, the IGP reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to working closely with state governments, traditional rulers, civil society organisations, and local communities to tackle emerging security threats through intelligence-driven and community policing approaches.

According to him, effective policing can only be achieved through continuous partnership and collective responsibility among stakeholders.

“Effective policing requires sustained collaboration between the Police, government institutions, traditional authorities, civil society, and the public,” Disu said, adding that security remains a shared responsibility built on trust and cooperation.

The police chief also commended the Edo State Government for its continued support to the force and its efforts toward enhancing security operations within the state.

In his response, Governor Okpebholo praised the Inspector-General for ongoing reforms in the police force, especially initiatives focused on professionalism, discipline, operational efficiency, and community policing.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies, stressing that lasting peace and safety depend on strong institutional partnerships.

“Security can only be sustained through collaboration between government institutions, law enforcement agencies, and local communities,” Okpebholo stated.

As part of his activities in Edo State, the IGP also delivered a keynote address at the Rotary International District 9141 Conference in Benin City, where he highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships, ethical leadership, and community engagement in promoting public safety and national development.

He further outlined ongoing reforms within the police force aimed at improving intelligence-led policing, accountability, and public trust.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to partnering with governments, development agencies, and community stakeholders to create a safer environment for Nigerians.
