Ilaje-Otumara: We Hear That 60,000 Plots Of Land Have Been Sold To One Of The Wealthiest People-Chapen

Co-Director of Justice and Empowerment Initiatives, Megan Chapen, has alleged that land from the demolished Ilaje-Otumara waterfront community is being transferred to private interests, intensifying concerns surrounding the ongoing legal dispute over the eviction.

Chapen made the claim during an interview on SYMFONI TV, where she spoke on developments following the controversial demolition that displaced thousands of residents in Lagos.

Highlighting what she described as troubling post-demolition actions, Chapen said, “They started to sell off the lands. We started to hear that 60,000 square plots of land have been sold to a private company in the name of Zenco, one of the wealthiest people in Nigeria.” The allegation raises questions about the motivations behind the demolition and whether the exercise was linked to commercial land acquisition.

The Ilaje-Otumara demolition has remained under scrutiny, with advocacy groups and affected residents pursuing legal action to challenge the process and seek redress.
