Umar Ardo, promoter of the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), has alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) raised concerns about the logo of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) during its registration process.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News after the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed ADA’s suit seeking to compel INEC to register the association as a political party, Ardo explained why he has continued to challenge the registration of NDC.

According to him, the issue was discovered during ADA’s own registration efforts. He stated, “INEC told NDC that their logo was similar to other political parties and associations.”

Ardo argued that the electoral body initially rejected NDC’s registration request on that basis. He explained that political associations seeking registration are required to first submit a letter of intent containing the proposed party name, acronym, and logo before gaining access to INEC’s registration portal.

The ADA promoter alleged that after INEC raised objections to the logo, NDC failed to complete the required registration procedures, including filling the official registration form and uploading mandatory documents.

He claimed that despite this, NDC later approached the court with only the correspondence exchanged with INEC and secured a judgment declaring that it had fulfilled all constitutional and legal requirements for registration.

Ardo further accused INEC of failing to challenge the judgment on appeal before proceeding to issue a certificate to the party.

He insisted that his opposition to NDC was not politically motivated or connected to any individual joining the party, but was based on what he described as an attempt to prevent irregularities in the political registration process….See More
