According to Daily Post on May 15, 2026, the United States has expressed confidence that China will take steps to reduce material support for Iran and help maintain stability in the Middle East following President Donald Trump’s visit to Beijing.………

US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer made the remarks during an interview with Bloomberg TV, where he discussed ongoing tensions surrounding the Iran conflict and the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz.

Greer explained that the United States believes China is taking a pragmatic position regarding the conflict and does not want to be seen as acting directly against Washington. According to him, Beijing is focused on regional stability and is expected to act in ways that limit further escalation.

He stated that ensuring the Strait of Hormuz remains open without military restrictions or disruption is important to China’s interests. The waterway remains one of the world’s most critical shipping routes for oil exports, making the issue a major topic during discussions between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

Greer also noted that the US administration has seen improvement in China’s export activities involving rare earth materials, although he admitted the approval process for some shipments remains slow. He said American officials have occasionally had to intervene on behalf of affected companies due to delays in export licenses.

The comments come amid broader diplomatic discussions between Washington and Beijing over trade, Taiwan and the ongoing Iran conflict. Reports indicate that Trump and Xi also discussed ways to reduce tensions in the Middle East during their high-level meetings in China.

Analysts believe China’s role could become increasingly important because of its strong economic relationship with Iran and its influence over regional trade routes. However, experts have also suggested Beijing is unlikely to completely abandon its ties with Tehran despite pressure from the United States.
