The family of 16-year-old Joy Wanjiru is celebrating her safe return after more than five weeks of being missing.

The Form Three student at Kenya High School disappeared on 1 April while on her way from school. Despite boarding a matatu to Nyeri, she never arrived home as expected, leaving her family in deep worry and anguish.
Fortunately, Joy was found alive in Thika by a Good Samaritan identified as Judy Chepyegon, who later contacted the family and handed the young girl over to them at Athena Police Post in Thika.

Speaking for the first time after reuniting Joy with her family, Judy said she was grateful to have been able to help.

How did Judy Chepyegon find Joy Wanjiru?
She explained that she met the 16-year-old in Thika Town looking stressed and confused, and decided to help her return safely to her mother’s care.
“Finally, I met Joy’s parents yesterday here at Athena Police Post after they had been searching for their child for six weeks. I found her in Thika Town, very stressed and looking extremely withdrawn. It is only God who made it possible,” she said.
Following her act of kindness, Chepyegon has received praise on social media as well as from Joy’s family.
One of the well-wishers who had been coordinating the online search for Joy also met the Good Samaritan to appreciate her efforts.

The well-wisher promised to take Chepyegon on a tour of Kenya High School so she could better understand the institution and possibly aspire for her children to study there one day.

“I have never heard of Kenya High School. This is the first time I have heard about it, and I even asked where it is located,” said Chepyegon.
The well-wisher appreciated her for her kind heart and for rescuing Joy from the streets.
“It is in Kileleshwa. I will plan one of these fine days and take you there, because I know you have children. One day, God may open doors for them to attend the same school as the young girl you rescued,” said the well-wisher.
