Activist-turned-politician Aisha Yesufu has revealed that the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) decided to forgo direct primary elections for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial ticket.

This effectively positions party chieftain Barr. Amanda Pam to clinch the ticket.

The development follows days of social media speculation.  There were rumours circulated widely that Yesufu had lost the FCT senatorial primary to Pam.

Critics used the rumours to mock the activist, ridiculing her strong online presence and suggesting it lacked the backing of a solid local political structure.

Following the rumours, Yesufu declared that the party will go ahead with primaries.

However, it has now been established that a primary election will not take place. Instead, it is understood that the NDC leadership has opted to ditch direct primaries for the senatorial slot, moving to adopt Amanda Pam as the consensus candidate.

Reacting to the party’s decision, Aisha Yesufu said:

“Dear Supporters
Our party has decided not to conduct primaries for the  Senatorial seat in FCT Abuja. It however intends to conduct primaries for House of Representatives! Go ahead and make your choice known!

“I urge each and everyone of you to remain calm and focus on the bigger picture which is the presidential election. Nigeria will be OK!

“I appreciate all your support, dedication and commitment towards #AishaForSenate project.

“In the coming week I will be returning back to all the 6 Area Councils God willing to appreciate them for the warm welcome and continue to forge ahead for a #BetterFCT”
