A US-based registered nurse identified as Miss Sterling Lewis has shared a distressing account of alleged marriage fraud, claiming she was deceived and abandoned shortly after tying the knot.
She spoke during a live broadcast on Brekete Family, aired on Human Rights Radio 101.1, where she sought help over the incident.
In her words, “I came to Nigeria to marry my facebook lover, I sent him thousands of dollars, but he disappeared two days after our wedding.”
According to Lewis, she met the man, identified as Mr Success, on Facebook. What started as a relationship built on trust reportedly evolved into financial demands. She stated that she sent him money multiple times for expenses such as accommodation, medical needs, and family-related costs.
She explained that upon arriving in Nigeria in May 2024 for their wedding, the planned traditional ceremony did not take place. Instead, they proceeded with a court wedding in Abuja.
However, she alleged that just two days after the marriage, the man disappeared without explanation. Since then, she has been unable to reach him, and his whereabouts remain unknown.
Also speaking during the program, a man identified as the wedding guarantor confirmed that he had also lost contact with the groom after the ceremony.
Lewis is now seeking legal intervention. She has appealed for the case to be reported to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and Interpol for investigation.
She is also demanding a formal divorce, stating that the marriage was built on deception.
