The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspected drug dealer and recovered 879 parcels of suspected Cannabis Sativa during an operation in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of the state.

The command said the suspect, identified as Umaru, also known as Jalo, was arrested on May 13, 2026, while allegedly offloading 18 sacks containing dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa into his residence at Yan Shado village in Dawakin Tofa.

This was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the spokesperson for the command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.

According to the statement, operatives attached to the Dawakin Tofa Police Division carried out the operation following credible intelligence.

The police said the operation was part of ongoing intelligence-led and community-based policing strategies aimed at dismantling criminal networks in the state.

“The suspect was caught offloading eighteen sacks of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa into his residence,” the statement said.

It added that a search conducted at the premises led to the recovery of the 18 sacks, which were found to contain a total of 879 parcels of the suspected illicit substance.

The command stated that the operation followed directives issued by the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Ibrahim Bakori, to operational commanders to identify and arrest individuals linked to drug trafficking based on intelligence reports and community feedback.

The police described illicit drugs as a major factor contributing to violent crimes, thuggery, and social disorder within the state.

“CP Bakori reaffirmed the command’s zero-tolerance stance on drug trafficking and abuse, noting that illicit drugs remain a major driver of violent crime, thuggery, and social disorder in the state,” the statement added.

The commissioner also directed a thorough investigation to uncover the suspect’s suppliers, distribution network, and possible sponsors.

According to the police, the suspect remains in custody and will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The command commended residents who provided useful information leading to the arrest and urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible intelligence on criminal activities in their communities.
