The deceased, identified as Stephen Munyithya, was found dead inside his rented house.

Stephen, originally from Mwingi and a tiles worker, was described by his neighbours as a quiet man who largely kept to himself.

Speaking in a report by Getembe TV, one neighbour said she last saw him about two to three months ago and assumed he had travelled home.

She also noted that he had been unwell and suffered from frequent coughing.

“Steve is my neighbour, and he usually coughs a lot. He often locks himself in the house when at home. He doesn’t like staying outside. You can only see him when he is going to use the toilet,” she said.

The woman further noted that the deceased drank alcohol but never caused trouble, as he mostly kept to himself in his rented room.

She described him as a hardworking man who always showed up for work, even when he appeared visibly unwell.

“When he arrives at his house, he often locks himself inside using both the upper and lower locks. We had not seen him around for a while and assumed he had travelled for work,” added the neighbour.

How was Kisii man’s body found?

Stephen’s neighbour raised the alarm after noticing houseflies around the house, which was unusual.

Days later, she also noticed a foul smell coming from Stephen’s direction and reported the matter to the landlord. Since the door was locked, the landlord looked through the window and saw the 44-year-old’s lifeless body inside.

Police were called to the scene, and the body was later moved to a mortuary in Kisii County.
