The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit has announced sweeping security and enforcement operations across the state ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The Chairman of the Taskforce and a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP Adetayo Akerele, made this known on Monday.

He said the operations would target identified black spots and vulnerable locations across the metropolis to curb criminal activity, traffic and environmental offences, and ensure a peaceful atmosphere for residents and visitors during the Islamic festival.

Akerele said officers had been deployed to various parts of the state in a coordinated security exercise pursuant to the directives from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

He said the operations would focus on flashpoints, illegal motor parks, traffic-prone corridors, and criminal hideout areas historically prone to unlawful activity during festive periods.

“We are fully prepared to ensure that Lagos residents enjoy a peaceful and secure Eid-el-Kabir celebration,” he said, adding: “Our personnel have been strategically positioned across the state to monitor activities, prevent crimes and respond swiftly to any security breach.”

Akerele added that the agency would work alongside other security and emergency response agencies to maintain law and order and improve traffic flow throughout the celebration.

Patrols would be intensified in areas known for street trading, illegal parking, and hooliganism.

He warned criminal elements planning to disrupt public peace to stay away from Lagos State, saying the Taskforce would not tolerate any threat to the security and well-being of law-abiding residents.

The chairman urged residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies and report suspicious activity to relevant authorities.

Akerele also called on motorists, transport operators, and traders to comply with traffic and environmental regulations to avoid sanctions.

“As an agency charged with maintaining environmental sanity and enforcing public order, we remain committed to protecting lives and property before, during and after the festivities,” he said.
