The Women in International Shipping and Trading Association Nigeria has congratulated its president, Mrs Odunayo Ani, for receiving the prestigious Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria Merit Award.

In a congratulatory message on Tuesday, the association described the recognition as a fitting tribute to a distinguished professional and transformational leader.

WISTA Nigeria commended Ani for her exceptional contributions to the accounting profession, the maritime sector, and the advancement of women in trade and transport, noting that “her leadership continues to inspire excellence and inclusivity across industries.”

WISTA stressed that the award was a testament to her years of unwavering commitment to professional integrity, capacity development, and strategic advocacy, which have positioned her as a respected voice in both the maritime and financial ecosystems.

“Dr Odunayo Ani’s remarkable journey reflects resilience, professionalism, and service. This prestigious recognition by ICAN further validates her immense contributions to national development and the empowerment of women within the maritime industry and beyond,” the statement read.

The association noted that her dynamic leadership at WISTA Nigeria has continued to strengthen its advocacy for greater female participation in shipping, logistics, trade, and transport while fostering mentorship and professional development opportunities for women professionals.

Reaffirming its pride in her accomplishment, the WISTA Executive Committee said the honour was thoroughly deserved and expressed confidence that Dr Ani would continue to set higher standards of excellence and impactful leadership.

“On behalf of the Executive Committee and the entire WISTA Nigeria family, we heartily congratulate our President on this well-earned recognition and celebrate this important milestone with her,” the statement further read.

Also speaking, a former President of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Ibrahim Jibril, commended Dr Ani for her professionalism, dedication, and impactful leadership over the years.

Reflecting on their professional relationship, Jibril, who is also the current International Vice President of CILT International, described Ani as a committed and accomplished administrator whose passion for excellence has remained evident across every responsibility she has undertaken.

He encouraged her to continue making giant strides in the accounting profession while sustaining her advocacy and mentorship for women in the maritime sector.

Jibril emphasised that her achievements serve as an inspiration to younger professionals seeking to make a meaningful impact.

Speaking after receiving the award, Ani said, “This award is both humbling and inspiring. I regard it not only as recognition of past contributions, but also as a call to continue upholding the values of excellence, integrity, professionalism, and service to humanity. I am deeply honoured and sincerely grateful to the ICAN for conferring on me the ICAN Merit Award in the Members’ Diamond Category.”
