According to reports online, the woman was told to visit the hospital late on Monday, May 18, in the evening to see her husband, who had been admitted.

The grieving woman was captured on video arriving at the facility on a boda boda, with her baby tied on her back.

She alighted from the motorbike and walked straight into the facility, accompanied by a few men, presumably boda boda riders based on their dressing.

One of them gently took the baby from her back, offering to hold the child while another guided her into a room.

She did not say a word, but appeared tense and shocked. However, she could no longer hold back her pain when she saw a body covered to the head.

What happened to the Githurai man during protests?

One of the hospital staff pulled back the sheet covering her husband’s face, and she immediately broke down in tears.

She moved closer and touched the lifeless body as she wept and mourned him. The men present comforted her as she struggled with the devastating loss.

The deceased Githurai man was allegedly shot by police during the first day of nationwide matatu protests.

Kenyans, especially matatu crews, took to the streets protesting the high cost of fuel in the country. As of the evening of May 18, at least four people had been confirmed dead following the protests.

Netizens sympathise with Githurai woman

Solvistar Sablon:

“I don’t think Kenyans learned any lesson from what happened during the 2007–2008 Kenyan crisis. You cannot speak about democracy while attacking, threatening, or silencing people simply because they hold different political opinions. True democracy is built on tolerance, respect, and the freedom for every Kenyan to support the leader or party they believe in without fear. Let us reject bandwagon politics, tribal divisions, and political intimidation. Kenya belongs to all of us, and peace must always come before politics.”

Wanjiku:

“Nyambura, may God give you peace during this hard time.”

Wambui Thuo:

“The one asking to be handed the kid, thanks. Hugs, mama, hugs.”

Jose Reborn:

“This has really hurt me. May God comfort her and may her husband rest in peace. God is near to the brokenhearted… peace of the Lord be upon this family.”
