The Ondo Women Elders Council (OWEC) has expressed optimism that the reported defection of former Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) will strengthen political inclusion and democratic participation in the state.

In a letter dated May 14, 2026, signed by the Council’s President, Engr. Janet Adeyemi, the group described Mimiko’s political realignment as a significant development that reflects his continued commitment to public service and the progress of Ondo State.

The Council praised Mimiko’s track record, particularly his reforms in healthcare, education, and social welfare, describing his administration as a notable reference point in the state’s political history.

The women elders also highlighted his long-standing support for grassroots development, women, children, and vulnerable groups, noting that his experience would bring added value to the APC and the state.

They expressed confidence that his move would foster greater unity across political divides and create more opportunities for collaboration and sustainable development in Ondo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Council reaffirmed its support for peace, good governance, and collective progress, while encouraging Dr. Mimiko to continue engaging stakeholders and contributing his wealth of experience to the development of the state and the nation.
