Nollywood actress Nancy Isime is honouring her late colleague, Alex Ekubo, in a big way.
Kemi Filani reported on Tuesday that the light-skinned actor had passed away on Monday, May 11th, after a battle with Cancer and was 40 years old.
In a heartbreaking statement, his family announced that the actor had passed away after a brief but courageous battle. According to the statement, he passed away at Evercare Hospital due to complications arising from advanced metastatic kidney cancer.
The movie star has changed her Instagram profile to a dark photo of Alex Ekubo. Kemi Filani checked on her Instagram and noticed the new change.
One Chinenyenwa wrote, “His death is so painful. They are truly mourning this time. So so sad. Me, that I haven’t met him in person, I haven’t gotten over the shock. Just when his work began to pay out”.
One Ego Oyibo PnD wrote, “I haven’t met Alex, but I haven’t been myself. I hate death so much
One Brit wrote, “Death is so final, it hurts”.
In a previous post, the light-skinned actress wrote a lengthy statement about cancer, noting how so many beautiful lives have been lost, and many are still battling silently every day. She added that it is painful to see how much suffering it causes, yet so many continue to fight with incredible strength and courage.
Last year, netizens expressed concern about Alex’s absence on social media. The light-skinned actor hasn’t been active on Instagram since 2024.
Speaking up for him, Oma Nnadi had addressed those sending her messages about him. Oma told them to stop looking for Alex as he is healthy, well and fine. She noted how everyone must not be on social media.
The talented actor was later spotted in a video with some kids.
In 2023, during the wake of talented Nigerian singer Mohbad’s death, Alex shared a deep message about the irony of life. He noted how people cry for the dead yet keep malice with the living. He pointed out how we envy the successful and avoid the broke (poor) ones.
Also, during Junior Pope’s death, Ekubo wrote a heartfelt note, praying that we be surrounded by people with wisdom and human sympathy in our helpless moments and not those who are more interested in creating content out of one’s situation.
