Former governor of Jigawa state, Sule Lamido, has lamented that he is struggling to understand the current political direction of Nigeria amid the realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a post published on Facebook, Lamido said he was trying to “decipher and understand the political chemistry and direction of the moment in Nigeria” in order to make a less confusing political decision.

The former governor said several of his political associates and former colleagues in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are now spread across different political parties.

Lamido listed Godswill Akpabio, George Akume, Abdullahi Adamu, Aliyu Wamakko, Danjuma Goje, and Abdullahi Ganduje among those now in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He also noted that Ifeanyi Okowa, who was the PDP vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 election, is now leading the campaign for the second-term bid of President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking on the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Lamido said he had allies such as Atiku Abubakar, Liyel Imoke, Rotimi Amaechi, Aminu Tambuwal, Gabriel Suswam, Abdulfatah Ahmed, Lawal Batagarawa, and Adamu Waziri in the party.

Lamido added that in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson is “the boss”, while Rabiu Kwankwaso and Peter Obi are also members of the party.

The former minister of foreign affairs, said the politicians now spread across the APC, ADC, and NDC were all products of the PDP.

“All those mentioned in the above parties now were the creation and invention of the PDP. Whatever titles or status they hold were conferred on them by PDP. Whatever visibility they now command is all thanks to PDP,” he said.

Lamido said members of the PDP worked together in 1999 to restore Nigeria’s democracy after the political crisis that followed the annulment of the June 12 election.

His words: “Together in 1999 we all laboured hard to save and restore Nigeria from a very complex political situation occasioned by June 12.

“We restored the lost trust, we reconciled our political chemistry, we stabilized the country and started human development in earnest.

“We reclaimed our leadership role in ECOWAS and African Union. We became a key player on the World Stage.”

The former governor questioned the country’s current political direction 27 years after the return to democracy.

“We knew where we were in 1999! Do we know where we are today, TWENTY SEVEN YEARS after?” he asked.
