The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has inducted 157 graduates of Medicine and Dentistry from Obafemi Awolowo University into the medical profession.

The induction ceremony was held on Monday at the Oduduwa Hall in Ile-Ife, Osun State, where the oath of practice was administered by the Registrar of the MDCN, Professor Fatima Kyari. She was represented by Dr. Tijani Mandaka, Head of Medical Registration at the council.

Speaking during the event, Mandaka warned the newly inducted doctors and dentists against violating professional ethics. He urged them to uphold integrity, professionalism, and caution while carrying out their duties.

The Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Bernice Adegbehingbe, congratulated the graduates on their academic achievements and encouraged them to remain committed to professionalism, compassion, diligence, and integrity.

She described medicine and dentistry as noble professions dedicated to serving humanity and noted that the university remains committed to merit, fairness, and integrity in its admission and training processes.

Adegbehingbe also appealed to parents, alumni, and other supporters to assist the college in building a proposed Computer-Based Test Learning and Resources Centre estimated at N350 million.

She commended the management of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, lecturers, and parents for their contributions to the training of the graduates.

Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director of OAUTHC, Professor John Okeniyi, advised the new professionals to prioritise compassion and humanity in medical practice. He described the induction as an important transition from students to professionals and urged them to embrace resilience, innovation, and teamwork in tackling emerging healthcare challenges.

The Vice-Chancellor of OAU, Professor Adebayo Bamire, encouraged the inductees to approach the future of healthcare with courage, humility, and compassion while remaining committed to selfless service and professional ethics.

At the ceremony, Dr. Boluwatife Akindele emerged as the best graduating medical student, while Dr. Fiyinfoluwa Akande was named the best graduating dental student.
