A member of the House of Representatives, Afam Ogene, has reacted to comments made by lawyer and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, during a television interview where he criticised Peter Obi’s political moves.………
Ogene, speaking on SYMFONI TV, described Okonkwo as a friend but questioned the weight of his criticism in public debates. He said Okonkwo is more widely recognised for his acting career, especially his famous role in the classic film Living in Bondage, than for his work in the courtroom.
He added that although Okonkwo studied law and has been involved in politics, he is not particularly known for landmark legal cases. According to him, Okonkwo’s public identity has remained strongly tied to his Nollywood career rather than his legal practice.
Ogene also suggested that political statements should be viewed in context, implying that Okonkwo’s comments on party politics and Peter Obi’s decisions reflect his personal perspective rather than legal or professional authority.
In his words, “I don’t think he’s known for the cases he has taken up in court, he’s better known for his role as Andy in Living in Bondage (1993).”
