Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has identified fellow Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey and Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero among the toughest opponents he has faced in his career.
Osimhen praised both defenders for their physicality, aggression and defensive qualities while reflecting on difficult matchups during a recent interview.
Speaking during an interview with River Rhodes monitored on Wednesday, the Nigerian striker singled out Bassey for his strength and speed.
Osimhen said: “Calvin is very strong, very fast, and difficult to beat in one-on-one situations.”
The striker explained that Bassey’s understanding of his style also makes their encounters more difficult because they play together for the Nigerian national team.
Osimhen added: “He understands my style because we play together for Nigeria, so it is always a tough battle whenever we face each other.”
The former Napoli forward also praised Tottenham and Argentina defender Romero for his aggressive approach and concentration during matches.
Osimhen said: “Romero is another really tough defender.
“He is aggressive, always focused, and doesn’t give strikers time on the ball.”
Osimhen has played against several top defenders during spells in France, Italy and European competitions, where he established himself as one of Europe’s leading forwards.
The striker’s comments come amid another strong campaign in Europe, with several top clubs reportedly monitoring his situation following his consistent performances in front of goal.
Bassey has also continued to grow in reputation for club and country because of his versatility across different defensive positions, while Romero remains a key player for both Tottenham and the Argentina national team.
