The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for the August 15 Osun State election, Najeem Salaam, has pledged to make resolving the state’s persistent electricity crisis his top priority if voted into office.

Salaam made this known while appearing on a political talk show, Oro Oselu, broadcast on Uniq FM in Ilesa, Osun State. Speaking through a statement released by his media team in Osogbo on Tuesday, the former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly emphasized that his attention remains fixed on governance, development, and people-centered policies, rather than engaging in political mudslinging.

He noted that while many of his fellow contestants have been trading insults for public attention, he has instead been holding discussions with investors and key players in the power sector, with the goal of finding a lasting fix to the unreliable electricity supply affecting households, businesses, and industries across the state.

Salaam stressed that steady power supply is not a luxury but a necessity, describing it as fundamental to economic growth, industrial development, youth employment, and the survival of small and medium-scale enterprises.

He warned that no meaningful progress can be achieved in a state crippled by poor electricity, and promised to pursue innovative energy partnerships to improve both power generation and distribution statewide.

On the broader electoral landscape, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, has unveiled a 7-point agenda tagged ‘PROSPER’, while incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who assumed office on November 27, 2022, continues to implement his 5-point agenda centered on workers’ welfare, education, infrastructure, and security.
