A man arrested in connection with a suspected ritual killing case in Nigeria has pleaded for mercy after making a shocking confession to investigators, claiming he only carried out killings when victims were brought to him.

The suspect was apprehended following a tip-off and a raid by security operatives in [location not disclosed] after residents reported suspicious activities. According to police sources, during interrogation the man allegedly stated: “Please don’t kill me. I only slaughter human beings when they bring them to me. I’m not a thief.”

Authorities say the statement is part of an ongoing investigation into suspected ritual-related killings in the area. The suspect remains in custody while officers work to verify his claims, identify alleged accomplices, and locate any other victims. Police have not confirmed whether human remains were recovered or whether additional arrests have been made.

Homicide and ritual killing fall under Section 221 of the Criminal Code Act and equivalent state laws, which carry life imprisonment or the death penalty upon conviction in Nigeria.

Law enforcement officials have urged the public to avoid spreading unverified details that could compromise the case or interfere with investigations. They also warned against jungle justice, stressing that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Child protection and civil society groups say the incident highlights the need for stronger community policing, public awareness campaigns, and faster response to reports of suspicious activities.
