The Zamfara State Police Command has neutralised two bandits and recovered explosive devices in the Bungudu Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement released to newsmen on Tuesday, the spokesperson of the command, DSP Yazoo Abubakar said: “On 26th May, 2026, at about 0030hrs, a group of armed hoodlums invaded the Funture area of Rugar Buda Village via Nahuce District in Bungudu Emirate, shooting sporadically in an attempt to cause panic among residents”.

“Upon receipt of the report, Police operatives and other security personnel stationed in Nahuce swiftly mobilised and responded to the scene, where they engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel”.

DSP Abubakar said during the encounter, two bandits were neutralised, forcing the remaining criminals to flee into the surrounding forest with possible gunshot injuries.

“Regrettably, a vigilante member identified as Kabiru Auwal, male, 35 years old, of Gwargwabe area, sustained a gunshot injury on his left hand, resulting in a fracture”.

He said the victim was currently receiving treatment at the hospital and responding to treatment.

Meanwhile, patrol and confidence-building operations have been intensified in the affected community to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of residents.

DSP Abubakar said in a related development, on 25th May, 2026, at about 1300hrs, following a distress call, the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), in collaboration with the EOD-CBRN Team, conducted a sweeping operation along Bilbis–Kuncin Kalgo Road.

During the operation, the team detected a pressure plate Improvised Explosive Device (IED), also known as a victim-operated IED, at Hayin Kagana–Kuncin Kalgo axis.

“The explosive device was suspected to have been planted by terrorists operating within the area with the intention of targeting security personnel and innocent civilians”.

“The EOD-CBRN experts successfully evacuated and neutralised the planted IED without any casualties. Components of the explosive device were safely demolished in accordance with standard safety procedures to prevent accidental detonation, while the affected area was rendered safe for public movement”.

The Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, CP Ahmad Muhammad Bello, psc+, mnips, commended the bravery and professionalism displayed by the operatives and reassured members of the public of the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

The Command further urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information that will aid ongoing operations against criminal elements.
