The first leg league of the Quomodo Swimming Inter School Swimming competition ended with so much excitement recently at Ikoyi Club 1938 as Corona School and Riverbank School swimmers stole the show.

The two foremost Lagos State-based schools finished first and second respectively at the end of the first leg of the league.

Corona had a total score of 268 points while Riverbank had 238 points.

British International school came third with 221 points to place third, Grange School recorded 201 points to occupy the fourth position, just as Greenspring School occupied the fifth position with 152 points.

The Vice Chairman and Games Captain of Ikoyi Club Swimming section, Babatunde Afolabi Pears, said it was a good event for all the participants.

The Games Captain said: “The standard was very good.

“The sponsors have done very well for us.

“The officiating has been perfect and the children were happy but I’m sure in the second leg will be even better.

“The participation was also very good because we have 17 schools with their teams.

“We have over 270 swimmers contesting for different points, the points being competition.

“After this one they will play the second leg.

“So it’s been very good.

“The second leg will be more competitive.

“It’s like playing in the champions league.

“First and second leg.

“Second leg, they will go all out because that is when we get the actual champions, the most valuable swimmers and the most interesting and competitive team and the overall champion will be crowned at the second leg.

“So we expect that to be more interesting and entertaining than this one.”

The Chairman, Ikoyi Cub Swimming Section, Akin Onabolu, said the Swimming Grand Slam achieved its purpose.

“We expect the second leg of the league to be more explosive and our aim is to raise future champions for Nigeria,” Onabolu said.
