A Form Three student at Kenya High School who had been missing for six weeks has finally been found alive, with new details emerging about where she stayed and how she survived during the period she was away from home.………
Sixteen-year-old Joy Wanjiru was discovered in the Ruiru area of Thika in Kiambu County after a well-wisher spotted her and alerted her family.
She was later taken to Karatina Police Station before being reunited with her relieved parents.
According to police at Karatina Police Station, the student revealed that she had been sleeping outside throughout the six weeks she was missing.
She also explained that she survived by borrowing small amounts of money from members of the public, which she used for bus fare as she moved towards Thika.
Wanjiru went missing on April 1, 2026, shortly after schools closed for the Easter holiday.
CCTV footage later showed her walking alone in her school uniform in Karatina town in Nyeri County on the same day.
Her schoolbags were later recovered near River Ragati, deepening concerns over her disappearance.
Her family said they received crucial information from a social media post by a member of the public who claimed she had been seen in Thika.
After the tip was verified, it helped guide rescuers to her location in Ruiru.
Family members described an emotional reunion marked by relief and tears after weeks of uncertainty.
